When I was reporting this issue: http://developer.wz2100.net/ticket/2308, I saved the game and then tried to reload the saved game to see if the issue persisted. When I reloaded the saved game, all of the mountain areas that once displayed shadows between each mountain peak now display water!

In the attached screen grab, you can see on the mini-map that there should be not water in the area, yet water is prevelant all throughout the mountains.

Okay, I tried to recreate this issue myself and could not, even with the same files I saved on the linked ticket. So I have no idea what caused it. But from the screengrab clearly it did occur once.

closing ticket, since it is a unsupported version (and the current code doesn't use the same hack as this version), and AFAIK, this works in master.

Thanks for reporting.
