Warzone just fails to run then with a slightly misleading "file not found" error.

Yes, it must be created before hand, since PhysFS isn't allowed to touch anything that isn't in the write dir.

Nothing we can really do about this, unless you want to use the system's routine for doing this, and deal with all the permissions then ?

This is not a bug, as that Buginator chap said, we can't make new directories that are outside Physfs's write directory policy.
It is a safety feature of PhysFS.
