We should try to allow players to play a campaign cooperatively.
How could this work? Here is a suggestion:
- Maximum 4 players can play cooperatively.
- First player to join can be General or give someone else the honour of being General.
- The General is the main base builder and usually defends the main base from attacks. Only the General can build defenses on the main map.
- The General also selects the roles of other players in the beginning (before game starts). The other roles are Technology Officer, Air Force Commander, and Special Operations Offer.
- If there is a Technology Officer, this is the only player who can make research choices.
- If there is an Air Force Commander present, this is the only player who can build and control air/VTOL buildings and units.
- If there is a Special Operations Officer present, this is the only player who can build and control special stealth/sniper units.
- The mission tree is reorganized. Each main base mission has three off-world secondary missions. The secondary missions may or may not be completed during the main mission in the same mission timer limit as for the main mission. The mission timer is reduced for each additional player. If there is only one player, that player must either first achieve the primary objective, before being allowed to take on secondary missions, or first complete the secondary missions, depending on the setup. If there are more than one player, the "extra" players carry out the off-world secondary missions.
- Players who are on an off-world mission are not counted as being "present". Other players may control the units normally controlled by such players in their absence.
- No secondary mission should be required - but should make the game easier.
- The General is the only player who can send units off as reinforcements. He/she may have his/her hands full in the main mission, so cooperation and communication is required.
