Multiplayer behind NAT
Usually a computer can be addressed from the Internet. Unfortunately more and more users are shielded by NAT (network address translation), so they cannot be reached from "outside".
Since mobile networks (e.g. GPRS, 3G) have become much cheaper, a lot of users transferred their Internet account to one of the mobile network operators. Commonly, NAT is applied there from the operators and cannot be switched off by user.
Users behind a NAT can join a WZ game but never host one, because they can't accept incoming TCP connections.
Of course, that's not a special Warzone related problem, several other games cannot fully communicate through NATs too, but we should not give up the hope that WZ would make this possible some day.
Possible solutions:
- The Lobby server operates as a switchboard
- NAT traversal, for example using UDP hole punching
Safe Period
Present Situation
In regular WZ missions, you often can't access the whole map at the beginning. Later on, when you have accomplished a specific goal, the reminding map area becomes visible and accessible.
This feature could be used in single player skirmishes to guarantee a safe period.
Suggestions
Every map should be divided in secure start zones for the players. These zones should be separated by no-man's-land strips. After a predefined time period, the whole map should be accessible by all players.
